Robert Stivers receives Leadership Award

 


Williamsburg, Ky. – World renowned columnist and political analyst Dr. Charles Krauthammer spoke to a crowded auditorium of over 3,000 University of the Cumberlands (UC) students, staff, and faculty, as well as friends from across the state of Kentucky, during the University’s annual Forcht Group of Kentucky Center for Excellence in Leadership event on Tuesday, April 9th. Held in the O. Wayne Rollins Center, located on the UC campus, Krauthammer’s speech, “Ethical Leadership,” focused on the various ethical issues that the country is currently facing.

The Center, that sponsors internationally renowned speakers recognized for their character and leadership, provides a keynote speaker yearly at UC to help raise the visibility of the University’s values.

At this year’s program UC honored six individuals who have been instrumental in demonstrating an excellence to their community and nation and for serving as a role model to others by taking active steps to pursue noble goals and high ethical standards.

Robert Stivers was one of the honored guests to receive the Ethical Leadership Award.

Mr. Stivers has served in the General Assembly since 1997 representing the 25th District of Clay, Knox, Lee, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, and Wolfe counties. He was recently elected Senate President.

He serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Committees and Rules Committee and is the co-chair of the Legislative Research Commission. Currently he is serving as a member of the governing board of the Council of State Government, executive committee member of the Southern Legislative Conference, and member of the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Senator Stivers graduated from University of Kentucky, with a degree in industrial management and minor in economics, and earned his law degree from the University of Louisville.

Stivers is a practicing attorney in Manchester where he lives with his wife Regina Stivers and four children.
