Nemeth receives honorary degree from Cumberlands

 


Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) honored Kenneth Nemeth with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree during the University Recognition Program on Tuesday, December 4th. Dr. Jim Taylor, President of UC, said, “I am pleased to present this honorary degree to Mr. Nemeth because of his stellar success, support and caring for his fellow man, and for his commitment to making this world a better place.”

Nemeth, a native of Sharon, Pennsylvania, received his Associate of Arts degree from Palm Beach Community College, his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Florida State University, and his Masters of Public Administration degree from University of Georgia.

He currently serves as executive director and secretary to the Southern States Energy Board, a position he has held since 1974, where he is responsible for developing and implementing Board policies and projects including short range and long range programs, budget goals, administrative activities, staffing and delegation. He also acts as the Board’s liaison with state governments, federal agencies, Congress, congressional staff, federal representatives, regional agencies, industry and the public.

Nemeth manages a seventeen-year program on emergency planning for transportation of transuranic wastes that includes the development of state plans, first responder training, special communications, equipment purchases, route designation. Also, he serves as principal investigator for the Southeast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership and the program designed to provide workforce training in the carbon management industry.

Nemeth is also involved in multiple Professional Associations including the National Coal Council; State and Regional Policy Panel and Committee on Future Nuclear Power Development of the National Academy of Sciences; Georgia Governor’s Energy Task Force and many others.

He serves as President of KennySue & the ReefCat Enterprises, specializing in scuba diving instruction, dive travel and underwater photography. He also is a master scuba instructor trainer with multiple affiliations and a specialist in coral reef ecology, diver rescue, and wreck diving and underwater photography.

Mr. Nemeth currently resides with his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Lewis) Nemeth, in Duluth, Georgia. They have one daughter, Wendy Kathryn Hudgins.
