Music Department to Present Gala Opera Workshop

Williamsburg, Kentucky - University of the Cumberlands Music Department announces its Gala Opera Workshop, Il trio con brio, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17, in the Nell Moore Recital Hall on campus.

In this event, spectacular performance is presented in trios from opera, operetta, and oratorio. Operas include Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and the Magic Flute, Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, and Bellini's Norma. The operetta selection is the delightful "Here's a Howdy Do" from Gilbert and Sullivan's the Mikado, while the oratorio trio is from Haydn's Creation. Music faculty Dr. Laura Chipe, Dr. David Etter, and Dr. Jeff Smoak each sing in a trio, as well as UC band director Mr. Todd HIll. The "orchestra" is comprised of Biology faculty member Dr. Jay Kirchner, music faculty Ms. Kay Dawn McFarland, Ms. Gayle Majors, and Mr. Todd Hill, along with UC student Nathan Smith. All scenes are accompanied by projected texts for the audience's enjoyment and understanding.

Admission is free. For more information, contact the UC Music Department at 606-539-4332.
