Bob Hutchison Receives Honorary Doctorate from Cumberlands

 


Williamsburg, Ky. – On Saturday, May 5th, University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented the Honorary Doctorate of Administration degree to Mr. Bob Hutchison during their annual commencement ceremony.

Hutchison began working at the early age of 9 and worked until he was 14 as a newspaper carrier for Knight-Ridder Newspaper and The Akron Beacon Journal. At the age of 14, he started his career with McDonald’s. At the age of 25 he obtained his first McDonald’s franchise, and he currently co-owns 14 McDonald’s franchises throughout East Kentucky.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees at the University of Pikeville, Midway College, Citizens National Bank, Commercial Bank of West Liberty, Green Historical Society, Christian Appalachian Project and Boy Scouts of America Bluegrass Council.

Mr. Hutchison is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Paintsville, Kentucky; Leadership Kentucky; Pike, Floyd and Johnson County Chambers of Commerce; University of Kentucky Fellowship; McDonald’s Government Relations Committee; Rock House Volunteer Fire Department.

Among the awards Mr. Hutchison has received are the Green Schools Foundation Outstanding Alumnus Award; the Eck Chandler Award; Friend of Education Award; Ronald Award; Golden Arch Award; East Kentucky Leadership Tony Turner Award; Silver Beaver Award.

He enjoys travel, good food, spending time outdoors, genealogy research and spending time with family. His advice for life is, “Always make time for family and God. Be sure to put a smile on someone’s face every day!”

Hutchison was born in Barberton, Ohio but now resides in Staffordsville, Ky. He is a graduate of Green High School, attended Kent State University, Tennessee Tech University, Excelsior College and Hamburger University.
