Sabrina Smith Receives Human Services Award at UC


Williamsburg, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) student Sabrina Smith (London, KY) was presented with the 2012 Human Services Award on Monday, April 23rd, at UC’s annual Honors Day Convocation. This departmental award winner is selected based on GPA, commitment to the department, and service to the University and community.

Smith was also recognized for Honor for maintaining a 3.7 or higher grade point average, as well as recognized for Highest Honor when she was inducted into the J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society.

Smith is a double major in human services and religion and has a 3.79 GPA. During her time at UC, Smith has served as President of the Global Awareness Program (GAP) for the past two years. She recently organized a relief effort through the GAP program for the tornado victims in East Bernstadt and raised over $1000 in supplies and donations.

Not only has Smith maintained high standards of academic excellence and service to the University and community, she has maintained a 40 hour per week job as an assistant manager at Arby’s in London to support herself financially through school.

Smith plans to attend the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University in Atlanta where she hopes to work with inner city children. She is the daughter of Wayne and Irene Smith of London, Ky.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
