Sarah Sutherland Honored as UC Biology Outstanding Senior


Williamsburg, Ky. – The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Biology Department honored Lindsey Sarah Sutherland (London, KY) with the 2012 Biology Outstanding Senior Award at UC’s Honors Day Convocation on Monday, April 23rd in the O. Wayne Rollins Center. She was recognized for High Honor for maintaining a grade point average above 3.85.

Each year the Biology Department gives an award to an exemplary graduating senior based on the student’s grade point average, services to the Biology Department, and their potential future service and accomplishments.

Sutherland was also named to the University’s Highest Honor, the J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society. Inductees into the Society must have a cumulative standing of 3.7 or better.

She holds the office of Treasurer for Biology’s Tri-Beta Honor Society and has been a member of the UC women’s junior varsity soccer team for four years.

During her time at UC, she has completed nearly 200 community service hours, and is an honor society member of three departments that include Chemistry, History, and Biology.

Sarah is the daughter of Chris and Peggy Sutherland, of London, Ky. After graduating from UC Sarah hopes to enter medical school.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
