Baird Receives Honorary Degree from Cumberlands

 


Dr. Jim Taylor, President of University of the Cumberlands, presents Charles Baird with an Honorary Doctor of Administration degree.

Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) honored Dr. Charles J. Baird with a Doctor of Administration degree during the 53rd annual Honors Day ceremonies on Monday, April 23rd, in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

Charles Baird is President of Baird and Baird, PSC, of Pikeville. Baird and Baird is a full-service law firm that has been practicing in Eastern, Southern, and Central Kentucky since 1947. Charles, brothers Bill and John, and ten other attorneys populate the firm’s offices in Pikeville and Lexington.

Baird is a member of numerous professional and community organizations serving as Chairman of Coal Operations and Associates, board member of Kentucky Coal Association, board member of Federation for American Coal Energy and Security, board member of Community Trust Bancorp, past member of Worker’s Compensation Board Nomination Commission, charter member of A. B. Chandler Foundation, and board member of Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Pikeville’s First Presbyterian Church and is in charge of the church’s participation in Meals on Wheels.

Charles credits his success to his strong belief in God, his parents, his family, his friends and his colleagues. For his selfless work, Charles Baird has received such recognitions as Distinguished Citizen Award from Pike County unit of Blue Grass Council Boy Scouts of America; Rotary Club International, Paul Harris Fellow, and Mining Lawyer of the Year for the 2011 edition of Kentucky’s Best Lawyers, among others too numerous to mention.

Baird and his wife, Rachel, are the parents of six children and step-children and the grandparents of four grandchildren.
