Cumberlands President Reads to Pleasant View Elementary Students

Williamsburg, Ky. – On Wednesday, April 11th, University of the Cumberlands (UC) President Dr. James H. Taylor traveled to Pleasant View Elementary School in Williamsburg, Kentucky to read and talk to students.

“It is very important to have visitors come into the classroom to read or do presentations,” said Mrs. Weaver. “It’s a great learning experience and provides the kids with a chance to ask questions.”

While at the school Dr. Taylor visited the pre-school class of Mrs. Amanda Hubbard, the kindergarten class of Mrs. Brenda Weaver, and the third grade class of Ms. Christy Frazier. With each class, Cumberlands President spent time talking to students about what they want to do later in life when they grow up and the importance of staying in school.

“As an alumnus of the University of the Cumberlands it was an honor to have Dr. Taylor speak to my third grade class about the importance of education,” said Ms. Frazier. “My students really enjoyed sharing their life goals with him.”

Dr. Taylor also read Dr. Seuss’ book called “Oh, The Things you can Do That are Good for You.” The book was about the healthy choices that need to be made to live a healthy life.

“It is a real honor to be able to visit with and learn about the youngsters in our community,” Taylor commented. “They are full of energy and so enthusiastic about the information you share with them. Their goals and ambitions are high, and I really enjoy thinking about what our community will be like when they grow up!”

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
