Cumberland Idol hosts Country Night


Dalton Hutton sings and plays the piano in Idol’s Country Night competition. He is one of the three finalist for the winner of Cumberland Idol.

Williamsburg, Ky. – Season 5 of the University of the Cumberlands’ (UC) hit singing competition, Cumberland Idol, continued with “Country Night” on Tuesday, April 10th. Over 300 students filled the Gatliff Chapel to witness the event.

The season’s fifth week featured the top six performers singing songs by country artists such as Martina McBride, Dolly Parton, and Keith Urban. UC contestants were Marissa Hedrick, Brandy Norman, Dalton Hutton, Shannon Whittenberg, Andrea Washam, and Wesley Hale.

Last week’s voting brought in more votes than ever. At the end of the event all performers were brought back on stage to find out the results. Last week’s votes narrowed contestants down to the final three performers; Wesley Hale (Amelia, Oh.), Dalton Hutton (Mt. Vernon, Ky)., and Marissa Hedrick (London, Ky.).

Voting for the remaining contestants began at 10 pm Tuesday night, and will end on Tuesday, April 17th, at midnight. Go to now to cast your vote for the winner of Cumberland Idol! Voting is unlimited. The Cumberland Idol Finale will take place Wednesday, April 18th at 9 pm in the Gatliff Chapel where remaining contestants will be able to perform any song of their choice and the winner of Cumberland Idol will be revealed!

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
