UC student Katie Betourne presents senior art exhibit

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands’ (UC) Art Department hosted a reception for student Katie Betourne in the campus’ J.M. Boswell Art Gallery on Friday, April 13. The reception was held to celebrate Betourne’s achievements in her senior art exhibit, on display in the Boswell Gallery during the preceding week.

The theme of Betourne’s photography exhibit was “Emotions,” and was made up of entirely new work. Betourne says she is inspired by people and scenery and most enjoys shooting in natural lighting.

The Clearwater, Fla. native came to Cumberlands on a volleyball scholarship and as a psychology major, but switched to art after her sophomore year.

“I’ve always loved art,” she said, as she described switching majors and learning from two of UC’s art professors.

“Ms. Allen and Mr. Weedman have really helped me and challenged my work,” she said. “Without them I wouldn’t be where I am.”

Betourne currently works in the office of Multimedia and Athletic Services at UC, where she takes sports stats, writes news releases and uses her photography skills at multiple events. She will graduate this May with a degree in art and a minor in exercise and sport science, and plans to look for work in commercial photography in Clearwater.

Betourne is the daughter of Judy and Kevin Betourne.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
