UC student Casey Barnard presents senior percussion recital

Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) student Casey Barnard presented his senior percussion recital on Tuesday, March 20th, in the Nell Moore Recital Hall in UC’s Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Center.

Barnard performed four solo percussion pieces on different instruments including timpani, marimba, djembe, and vibraphone. He also performed three duets: a snare drum duet with UC percussion professor Mr. Jim Corcoran, a marimba/vibraphone duet with former UC percussionist Jared Adams, and a marimba duet with fellow UC percussionist Matt Pyles.

Barnard was influenced to attend UC due to the persistence of percussion professor Jim Corcoran in wanting him as a student. Barnard knew that even if he weren’t a music major, he would enjoy working with Professor Corcoran under his style of teaching.

Barnard will graduate this May with a major in Music and a minor in Business Administration. He chose the major because of his love for music. When asked about his plans after graduation Barnard says, “I have no clue what the future holds for me, nor do I have definite plans for what I want to do with my life. There are plenty of options out there; I just haven’t found the right one yet. I know God will lead me down that right path eventually, so I continue to leave it all in his hands and have faith that he will help me out along the way.”

Barnard hails from London, Ky. and is the son of Rob and Kandi Barnard. He is the fiancé of Greta White whom he will be marrying in June.

Barnard has spent his time at UC keeping busy with Percussion Ensemble and Marching Band. He reflects on his time at UC and prepares to graduate with feelings of relief, happiness, and some fear for what the future holds.

“It has been a wonderful experience during my five years at UC. For that, I would like to thank all of my friends and family for all their love and support throughout the years, as well as each and every one of the music department faculty for all of the instruction, guidance, and help they have offered me along the way. I know that the educational experience I received here was the best that I could have ever asked for or imagined, and I owe my thanks and gratitude to all of them for making UC the perfect place for furthering my education.”

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of student; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master's degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
