UC’s Hutton School of Business Students Compete in Challenge

Williamsburg, Ky. — University of the Cumberlands (UC) Hutton School of Business (HSB) hosted an opportunity for students to take part in the Annual Excellence in Entrepreneurship Collegiate Business Concept Challenge. The event is hosted by the Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation, The Center for Rural Development, and the Eastern Kentucky University College of Business and Technology.

Institutions of higher learning from any university, college, and/or community college were eligible to compete. Students that take part in the event from each institution were divided into teams of 2-3 students. The task was to conduct an innovative and efficient business idea.

Judges evaluated the concept of each team’s business idea by examining their profit potential, scalability, and the description of the business plan. Students that entered the challenge were competing with each other for cash awards that included $750 for first place and $500 for second place; they also earned the opportunity for professional consultation.

The HSB will be entering the winning team into the 9th Annual Excellence in Entrepreneurship Collegiate Business Concept Challenge to submit their idea.

On March 16th, the group that won first place will have their idea forwarded to coordinators of the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Collegiate Business Concept Challenge. On April 18th, the winners and the top two teams will be recognized at the Young Professionals Business Forum held at UC.
