Cumberland Idol Celebrates 80's Night


Williamsburg, Ky. – Season 5 of the University of the Cumberlands’ (UC) hit singing competition, Cumberland Idol, continued with “Music of the 80’s” on Tuesday, February 21. Over 300 students filled the seats in the Gatliff Chapel on UC’s campus to witness the popular event.

The season’s second week featured the top 11 performers singing classics from artists such as Rod Stewart, Journey, Cher, Mr. Mister, Paula Abdul and more.

The featured singers were Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH), Ryan Coots (Harlan, KY), Jonathan Carmack (Manchester, KY), Marissa Hedrick (London, KY), Hannah Roehrborn (Palatine, IL), Bethany Sturdivant (Walton, KY), Wesley Hale (Amelia, OH), Brandy Norman (Carlisle, KY), Andrea Washam (Clairfield, TN), and Dalton Hutton (Mt. Vernon, KY).

As contestants sing for the audience’s vote, viewers and staff are noticing that the talent level is higher than ever before.“Not only has Cumberland Idol been a blast to work with,” said UC student and associate director Jody Walls, “but the contestants have absolutely blown me away.”

Voting began at 10 pm Tuesday night, and since then over 6,000 votes have been cast! Voting will end on March 2nd at midnight. Go to now to cast your vote for your favorite performance! Voting is unlimited.

The next Cumberland Idol performance will be “Royalty Night” on Tuesday, March 6 where performers will be allowed to select music by The King of Rock (Elvis Presley), The Queen of Pop (Whitney Houston), The King of Pop (Michael Jackson), and The Queen of Soul (Aretha Franklin).

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
