UC Theatre Presents 'Proof'

Williamsburg, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Theatre program opened their spring production of "Proof" on Thursday, February 23, 2012 in the Kohn Theatre. This popular production features only 4 students; Rebecca Partin (Williamsburg, KY), Thomas Sakowich (Nicholasville, KY), Mike Perkins (Georgetown, KY), and Taylor Singleton (London, KY). “With only 4 characters it truly gives each actor a chance to really sink their teeth into the role and fully develop and become their individual characters,” says director Dr. Kim Miller, Assistant Professor of Theatre.

“Proof” is based on a daughter of a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician, recently deceased, who tries to come to grips with her possible inheritance: his insanity. Complicating matters are one of her father’s ex-students who want to search through his papers and her estranged sister who shows up to help settle his affairs.

This production is directed by Dr. Kim Miller with scenic design by UC Assistant Professor of Theatre Carl Walling. UC student and stage assistant Susan Stephenson (Hamilton, OH) says, “Everyone has been working extremely hard on this play and their hard work will pay off each night they perform their work.”

The UC theatre program offers a range of performance and learning opportunities for majors and non-majors. They present two main stage productions a year including one musical and one play. Students are also given the opportunity to direct smaller black-box productions throughout the semester to assist in coursework and resume work. Applied coursework is available in many aspects of the theatre including lightning, sound, scenic design, stage management, arts administration, directing, community outreach, theatre history and a variety of acting courses.

Remaining performances will be March 1, 2, 3 at 7:30 PM and are in the Kohn Theatre of the Grace Crum Rollins Center on the University of the Cumberlands campus. The box office opens one hour before show time and tickets can be reserved by calling 539-4535. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of student; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master's degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
