On January 12, 2012 University of the Cumberlands alumnus Adam S. Sulfridge received from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives a certificate of appreciation for "outstanding and exceptionally significant service in the public's interest, and for demonstrating superior support to ATF's mission."

The certificate was presented to Sulfridge by Special Agent George Huffman, Public Information Officer of the Louisville Field Division, and Group Supervisor Matthew White of the Lexington III Field Office.

During his last two years of study at Cumberlands, Sulfridge assisted ATF in investigations of drug trafficking and firearms crimes which led to the arrest of a sheriff and numerous drug traffickers. Sulfridge faced great danger during that time and continued his studies despite being relocated by federal agents for protection.

Sulfridge is a summa cum laude graduate of University of the Cumberlands with Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science. During the 2011 Honors Day convocation, Gina Bowling, Chair of the Department of Human Services and Criminal Justice, presented Sulfridge an award for "Outstanding Achievement in Criminal Justice."
