Patriot Steakhouse Opens to Cumberlands Students

University of the Cumberlands students visit the Patriot Steakhouse in the Cumberland Inn, Williamsburg, Ky. The restaurant reopened on Friday, Jan. 20 with a new menu, name and décor after several weeks of renovation.

Williamsburg, Ky. - On Friday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m., University of the Cumberlands (UC) officially opened the Patriot Steakhouse, located at the Cumberland Inn, to UC students. The steakhouse is replacing the Athenaeum that had been in operation since May of 1994.

"Our whole goal is to provide the students, guests, and the local community an atmosphere that is full of energy," exclaimed Cumberland Inn General Manager Priscilla Partin. "I want everyone to feel welcome here at the new addition to our fine University and Inn."

The steakhouse is offering a wide range of food variety from their signature steaks to grilled chicken and southern fried catfish that everyone can enjoy during their dining experience. The University has opened the Steakhouse up to all residential students as a third option to go with their meal exchange plan.

"We were looking to give students a place to hang out during the weekends that was in town," said Vice-President of Business Services Steve Morris. "This, in turn, will help with recruiting and retaining students as we move forward.” From Friday at 11 when the doors opened through Sunday evening at closing, the Steakhouse served over 1,000 patrons ranging from students to guests at the Inn and the local community.

Everything about the Patriot Steakhouse is centered on former and current students, faculty/staff, organizations, and sports teams. "I am very excited about the fact that we get the opportunity to showcase our students and UC family to our guests," proclaimed Partin. "We want students to know they are important which is one thing that makes us unique."

Throughout the year the restaurant will feature two radio shows, UC Live, on Monday nights at 7:00 pm, and The Sports Round Table, on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm. Both shows air live on WCCR 94.5 and are broadcasted over the University's website. To watch the shows live go to and click on the TV icon.

"This is a great addition to the entire program at University of the Cumberlands," says Vice-President of Student Services Dr. Michael Colegrove. "This sends a strong message to the student body that they are the reason this University exists and we encourage all to come join us."

Also, many UC related events will be shown live over the Patriot Steakhouse big screens. Sports teams, academic departments, and other University related events will be given the opportunity to showcase themselves for guests while they are visiting.

When UC President Dr. James H. Taylor took over in August of 1980 he had a vision and dream of growing this University into something that the UC family would be proud of. "When I first started on the job over 32 years ago I envisioned expanding the horizons of this fine institution to accommodate the students and provide them a place that highlights their accomplishments," stated Dr. Taylor. "With the Patriot Steakhouse, I believe we have accomplished that."

The grand opening for the community and other guests alike will be Wednesday, February 1st at 11:00 a.m. UC invites everyone to enjoy the new exciting dining experience in Williamsburg.

Located in Williamsburg, KY., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master's degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
