UC Recognized at the 2011 AIKCU Technology Awards

 


WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — On Friday, October 21st, the 2011 AIKCU (Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities) Technology Awards Winners were announced at the Fall IT Directors Meeting in Berea. The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Information Technology (IT) Department was among the winners as they received honors for the Best New Campus Application System and Most Successful Infrastructure Project.

UC won Best New Campus Application with EDUCAN. This award was given to the school that implemented a major new application or enhanced an existing one that improves operational performance for students, faculty, or staff. EDUCAN is the UC Education Departments artifact management system. With EDUCAN the education department can keep track of and update students’ current and historical personal, program, certification, portfolio, and any other information they want to keep track of for students.

UC also won the Most Successful Infrastructure Project with UCWireless. This award was given to the school that implemented major changes to its technology infrastructure resulting in improved services or savings. UCWireless Infrastructure provides wireless connectivity for the entire campus. It is a collection of over 300 indoor and outdoor access points located on campus where a secured section of the system provides wireless connectivity for UC students, faculty, staff, administration, and guest access through the same controller.

“For the second year in a row the University of the Cumberlands Information Technology Department has won two of the four awards,” exclaimed UC Director of Information Technology Donnie Grimes. “These awards are a testament to both the University's commitment to technology and my outstanding team. I am excited that they have been recognized for their hard work and expertise.”

Besides these wins University of the Cumberlands was nominated for an additional eight honors.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
