Cumberlands to Host Self Defense Seminar for Women

Williamsburg, Ky. - On Monday, October 17th, University of the Cumberlands (UC) will be hosting a Self Defense Seminar in the Intramural (IM) Gym on the UC campus starting at 7:30 p.m.

Nick Gabbard, who runs the martial arts academy in downtown Williamsburg, will be the main instructor of the course along with 3 or 4 other instructors coming to help. The seminar will be open to all women including students, faculty, staff and family members.

The focus for the seminar will be on campus safety, trying to prevent women from being in a position for an attack in the first place, and basic moves to get away from attackers. Everyone should wear comfortable clothing in order to practice the moves.

The event is being sponsored by the Department of Criminal Justice, the Department of Human Services, and UC’s Campus Activity Board (CAB).
