UC Presents Back to the Garden: Tracing the Roots of Contemporary Christian Music

Williamsburg, Ky. - WCCR 94.5 FM in Williamsburg mixes radio with religion in pursuit of the roots of Contemporary Christian Music. The premiere episode of Back to the Garden features University of the Cumberlands (UC) faculty members Dr. Keith Semmel of the Communications department and Dr. Bob Dunston of the Missions and Ministry department.

The first program aired on WCCR on Tuesday, September 13th, 2011, and is intended to continue at various times throughout the semester.

“Contemporary Christian music did not just burst on the scene in a vacuum." says Dunston, "It was preceded by hymn writers like Isaac Watts, gospel song writers like Thomas Dorsey, folk singers like Woody Guthrie, and popular singers like Elvis, Ray Charles, and others. Our radio series will introduce listeners to some people and movements they may not know about and refresh their memories concerning some people and movements they do know about.”

WCCR is a non-commercial, educational station that began programming during the summer of 2004. It is run primarily by UC students and is advised by three members of the Communication Arts Faculty. All programming is available online. For more information, call 606-539-4532 or email the station at wccr@ucumberlands.edu.
