University of the Cumberlands to Host Fitness 5/Dare to Compare

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) will hold the Fitness 5/Dare to Compare Health and Fitness Fair, “D2C!—The Formula for Fitness!” event on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the O. Wayne Rollins Center gym and the James H. Taylor, II Stadium track.

An annual, free event sponsored by UC’s Department of Health, Exercise and Sport Science and the Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center, Dare to Compare is a fun health and fitness educational program for all ages. The public is encouraged to take advantage of free health assessments screenings provided during the day’s festivities. There is no need to sign up – just show up!

“Dare to Compare: Fitness Five" is a FREE health and fitness event which has been in existence for over 10 years,” stated Dr. Cindi Norton, professor and chair of Cumberlands’ Health, Exercise and Sport Science (HESS) Department.

“The event offers participants an opportunity to assess the five components of fitness as well as health components such as blood pressure, blood glucose and blood cholesterol. The event has been most successful in reaching college age students, faculty and staff as well as community members who are interested in achieving and maintaining a higher level of health and fitness. The UC Health, Exercise & Sport Science Department along with Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center invites everyone to attend our October event and bring a friend. We encourage everyone to have their health and fitness assessed in order to make lifestyle changes leading to a longer and healthier life.”

Participants are encouraged to go to the James H. Taylor II, Stadium track and football field for the walk/run component of the screening. Please wear comfortable attire and tennis shoes.

For more information, contact Dr. Cindi Norton or the HESS Department at (606) 539-4360.
