UC's Department of Education receives continuing accreditation

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — University of the Cumberlands’ Department of Education is pleased to announce the continuing accreditation by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) on August 1, 2011. The final approval was given after a long and rigorous process that included preparation by education faculty, staff, students and graduates.

“It is a self-study,” said Dr. Bob Heffern, chair of the education department. “We have an opportunity to look at the program and analyze strengths and weaknesses.”

Upon submission of an institutional report to the standards board, the education department hosted a review team from the board. This team spent several days on campus, interviewing professors, students, graduates and community members, and gathering information to support the department’s report.

The review team sent their findings to an audit committee, and upon review and approval it was given a final review by the EPSB. The next accreditation decision will take place in 2017.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
