Position  Nurse
Requirements  You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Basic Requirements: You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position: Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained. Minimum Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements as stated below: GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-9 grade level; Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). Examples of specialized experience are: experience in providing a full range of health care to patients; performing cursory physical examinations which included gathering health histories and checking eyes, ears, nose, lungs, joints, etc., and assisting physician with complete physical exam; administering emergency care for illnesses, injuries, dental and mental health problems; and planning, organizing, and assigning work to lower-graded nursing staff. Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements with 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met within 30 days of closing date of this announcement.
Responsibilities  Provides primary health care to students, ranging from minor illnesses to trauma and emergency cases. Treats chronic health problems, administrers medications, and performs follow-up care as needed. Performs physical examination and laboratory tests and interprets results and reports. Takes medical histories, conducts assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Makes referrals based upon assessment of the students physical and/or emotional needs. Participates in planning clinic programs and assists in the overall management of the clinic. Performs review of nursing program operations and plans work schedules to meet unit needs. Conducts workforce planning and training to promote a well-trained and qualified nursing staff. Provides technical and administrative instruction and guidance to lower graded nurses. Interacts with students and provides counsel to promote proper self-care, to improve personal health habits, and other health care related topics.
