The University of the Cumberlands Football team finished 6-4 overall and #2 in the Mid-South Conference East with a record of 3-2. While looking ahead toward next season, the Patriots have received many honors and recognition from their 2006 season play.
Named to Second Team All-Conference for offense is John Patton and Quincey McNair. John Patton is a Senior Offensive Lineman from Lexington, KY and finished with 48 knockdowns. Quincey McNair is a Senior Tight End from Cochran, GA. He ended his season with three receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown. McNair also ran back four kick returns for 34 yards.
Receiving First Team All-Conference for Defense were Derrick Hightower, Marcus Wesley, and Eric Tisdol. Derrick Hightower is a Junior Defensive Lineman from Dothan, AL. Hightower had 35 tackles, 10 of which were unassisted. He had six tackles for a loss of 22 yards, one sack for a loss of 7.5 yards, two pass breakups, and forced one fumble. Marcus Wesley is a Junior Linebacker from Tampa, FL. Wesley was the Patriots leading tackler with 92 tackles, 45 of which were unassisted. He had 14.5 tackles for a loss of 67.2 yards, four sacks for 40 yards, three interceptions, forced four fumbles and was the only one to block a kick for the Patriots. Eric Tisdol is a Sophomore Defensive Back from Bowman, GA. Tisdol had 39 tackles, 20 of which were unassisted. He had three pass breakups and recovered one fumble, to return it 15 yards.
For the All-Conference Second Team Defense, the Patriots had four representatives. Alex Wright, Lemuel Holifield, Brandon Goss, and Jordan Brown all were named to the team. Alex Wright is a Freshman Defensive Lineman from Quitman, GA. Wright had 25 total tackles, six tackles for 24 yards loss, and one and a half tackles for 13 yards loss. Lemuel Holifield is a Senior Linebacker from Johnson City, TN. Holifield had 75 total tackles, 28 of which were unassisted. He recorded four and a half tackles for 10.5 yards loss, one sack, one interception, and two pass breakups. Brandon Goss is a Freshman Defensive Back from Bowman, GA. Goss had 36 tackles, seven pass breakups, and one fumble recovery. He set a new record at the University of the Cumberlands with eight interceptions on the season. The previous record had been seven interceptions. Jordan Brown is a Senior Punter from London, KY. Brown also holds a school record with a long punt of 71 yards. He had an average of 37.9 yards per punt on the season.
Recognized for their work off the field and in the classroom earning Academic All-Conference honors were Ronnie Bowling (Corbin, KY), Jordan Brown (London, KY), Josh Frosch (Corbin, KY), Kyle King (St. Cloud, FL), and Josh Ward (Soddy Daisy, TN).
