After finishing the spring season in sixth place in the Region XI tournament, Head Coach Chris Kraftick returns for his second year as head coach. With four returnees to provide valuable insight and leadership to the team, the women’s golf team is looking forward to a great season.
Sophomore, Kayla Peace (Williamsburg, KY) proved herself last season and will be looked upon to continue her talent and abilities again this year. Coach Kraftick said, “Kayla is one of the best players in the conference.” Also returning are sophomore Whitney Blankenship (Racoon, KY), junior Margaret Warren (Claypool, IN), and junior Katie Akins (London, KY).
With five incoming freshman, the Patriots Women’s Golf team has added a lot of talent and depth. They will have to work harder than ever before and prove themselves if they truly want to be a top notch quality golf program. New faces that will join the team include: LeAnna Hinkle (Williamsburg, KY), Hannah Moore (London, KY), Alli Burton (Corbin, KY), Brittany Napier (Manchester, KY), and Kelli Garvin (Ashland, KY).
“The team has made significant strides within the past year,” Coach Kraftick stated. With a lot of work ahead of them and the inner squad competition being strong, the Patriots are looking to determine where their game stands and to prove that they can compete within the conference. Coach Kraftick is going to do his best to keep the team focused not only on the course, but in the classroom as well. “My goal is to ensure that this team reaches their full potential, on the green, but in the classroom as well,” stated Kraftick.
The Patriots will kick off their fall season with the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational on September 4, 2008.
