The purpose of the Department of Human Services is to provide an opportunity for students to gain knowledge and skills enhanced with Christian values which are relevant to the broad and rapidly changing area of Human Services. The Department’s primary objective is to produce students who act compassionately as they serve individuals, groups, organizations, and changing societies on the world stage. The Department’s curriculum provides students an opportunity to develop a perception of personal identity, to clarify values, and to strengthen critical thinking skills.
Program Goals
- To provide the foundation of a liberal arts education for a human services curriculum which leads to a diverse range of careers.
- To foster a broad knowledge base in the discipline in order to prepare students for their chosen careers and/or graduate studies.
- To offer academic and practical experiences which enhance counseling skills with individuals and groups.
- To define healthy professional boundaries and best ethical practices within a human services setting.
- To nurture a mature appreciation of the Judeo-Christian values of Western society within the global context of diverse cultures.
- To promote a critical application of various theories of human services and an analysis of various models of social welfare policy.
- To cultivate a mastery of qualitative and quantitative methods of research.
