Most students intending to pursue medicine after graduation choose to major in biology or chemistry. Pre-professional advisors are available in both of these disciplines to assist in planning an appropriate course of study and in understanding the entrance procedures and requirements of various
post-baccalaureate programs.

The majority of the professional schools seek students who have completed courses in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and have a background in English, humanities and social sciences. An ability to solve scientific problems and a broad undergraduate education are considered essential for the pre-professional student. Students may major in any subject or pursue any academic interest as long as the required courses are completed.

In preparation for admission to medical school, students should obtain a broad background in natural sciences, social studies and humanities. Students should consult bulletins from medical schools of their choice for specific entrance requirements. Minimum requirements for most medical schools are as follows:
