Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health Education
I attended Cumberland College on a full paid basketball scholarship from August 1984-December 1987 and received my Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health Education. Upon completing my degree, I began teaching in the Campbell County School System as a health and physical education teacher while working on my Masters in Education degree from the University of the Cumberlands and completed the program in May of 1988.
In August of 1992, I completed my Ed.S from Lincoln Memorial University. During my first ten years of teaching, I taught Physical Education and coached girls and boys basketball at Jacksboro Elementary School in Jacksboro, Tennessee. The next five years I taught Health, History, Special Education, Adapted Physical Education and served as the assistant coach for the girl’s basketball and track team.
One year later, I was appointed as Head Track Coach at Campbell County High where I coached for nine years while teaching at LaFollette Middle School. Eight years ago I moved to Campbell County High to teach Health.
My twenty third year of teaching has led me to teach girls Physical Education. at Campbell County High and I am currently in my twelfth year as LaFollette Middle School girls basketball coach. In 2007, I was nominated for the Who's Who Among American Educators by one of my former students. My goal for college was to go to a high quality small school close to home where I could receive an education that could prepare me for a remarkable career as an educator and coach. Cumberland College went above and beyond what I expected to meet those needs.
My instructors in the Physical Education and Health Department were excellent instructors that truly made a lasting impression on me. There is not a day that goes by that memory from my days at Cumberland are not on my mind. I also made friends at Cumberland that are still a big part of my life today. I would truly recommend Cumberland to any prospective students because I know firsthand how it has made my life successful and enjoyable.
The majority of my leisure time is spent on physical activity. I compete in road races (for Brooks Sports, EBS team racing and foot RX), triathlons, dualathlons and spend much time waterskiing and jetsking on Norris Lake.
