Dr. Jeff C. Smoak, Jr.

J. Smoak

Dr. Jeff Smoak joined the University of the Cumberlands' faculty in 1994 and was appointed Department Chair in 1997. He graduated from Charleston Southern University in 1984 with a B.A. in Music Education and holds two degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: a Master of Church Music (M.C.M.), earned in 1987, and a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Vocal Pedagogy, earned in 1991.

Dr. Smoak directs both the Chamber Choir and the Cumberland Singers. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Additionally, he has served for many years as a faculty advisor for INSIGHTS, University of the Cumberlands' freshman orientation program. Dr. Smoak received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2004 for his work at the univeristy, and he is currently listed in the national publication 'Who's Who in American Education'.

In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Smoak has served as adjudicator for choral and solo vocal competitions in Kentucky and surrounding states. Also, Dr. Smoak serves as Minister of Music for Main Street Baptist Church in Williamsburg.
