
Cumberlands’ Department of Music offers four degrees and three minors. As a student in any of these programs, you will learn to understand musical concepts, acquire musical skills and develop positive attitudes toward arts advocacy.
Music education focuses on the training and certification of music educators, and with your degree you’ll be qualified to teach music in grades P-12. The music faculty is comprised of outstanding music professionals who truly care about helping you develop your talents.
You’ll have access to fine facilities, including two lecture rooms, nine studios, a rehearsal hall, 16 practice rooms, and a music education classroom complete with a variety of teaching series and multiple Orff instruments. We have a 150- seat recital hall, an electronic piano lab, a professional recording studio and a computer-assisted instruction laboratory.
As a major in music education, you will earn the Bachelor of Music degree, not only will you be prepared to enter the educational marketplace but you’ll also be prepared to continue your studies in graduate school.
Requirements for all music majors include an audition to assess your performance skills and keyboard proficiency. As a music major, you will present a recital on your primary instrument during your senior year.
What Can I Do With This Degree?
