COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR
Upsilon-Upsilon has a rich history in the annals of Phi Alpha Theta. It was chartered in 1974 as the 500th chapter. Beginning with the 1977-1978 academic year, the chapter has either won outright or been named co-winner of the Best chapter Award in Division I (up to 3000 students) seventeen of the last eighteen years. What the future may bring, no one really knows. But the Department and the student members of Upsilon-Upsilon are dedicated to maintaining the tradition of the chapter.
The selection process for this year's volume was again a difficult one for the Board of Advisors. Each member of the Board read every manuscript before the final selections were made. The board and the editor wish to thank each person who submitted a paper. We realize that it required an extra effort on the part of each individual to take the time to do so in the midst of all their other activities. You are to be commended for your effort.
As editor, I would like to express my thanks to the Board of Advisors. They had the task of making the final selections. It took a great deal of effort and time in a busy semester--especially to keep the time schedule that was necessary. A special word of thanks is offered to Al Pilant who was the chairperson of this year's board.
As advisor to Upsilon-Upsilon, I would like to express my personal note of appreciation to the chapter's membership. Each group has its own personality, and you were no exception. You were one of the quietest groups in my tenure as advisor. But you always came together to get the work done. This made life easier on all who are involved in the organization, and I thank you for it. To our senior members, we will miss you, but we know that it is time for you to move into the next stage of your life. Please remember that you are a part of the Upsilon-Upsilon tradition, and you played a major role in maintaining that tradition. Those who remain behind will fight to uphold your standards.

COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Four years ago I walked on the campus of Cumberland College nervous, scared, and expecting great things. I have not been disappointed. Over time, as the friendships developed and the nervousness and fright left, great things did begin to happen. One of the greatest events of this time has been my joining the Upsilon-Upsilon Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta.
The chapter has met with success once again this past year. Early in the school year, the annual carwash was held. Seven lectures were presented, two booksales were held, one in the fall and one in the spring, and monthly newsletters were sent to all members. All of our efforts help to keep the winning tradition of the Upsilon-Upsilon Chapter alive and continuing, something in which we all take great pride.
Once again, the chapter sent several delegates to the regional convention held at Northern Kentucky University. Two members read papers and three others went along for moral support. The trip was a learning experience for all, and new acquaintances were made in the process.
At the annual banquet, we were honored that Dr. Alfred Andrea, the news editor of The Historian, the national journal of Phi Alpha Theta, was the speaker. Dr. Andrea gave a wonderful speech, and I appreciate him and his wife taking the time to be with us.
The success of our chapter is only as good as the members involved. I feel honored and privileged to have served as president of this fine organization. I would like to thank all of the members for their hard work over the past year. I would also like to thank Fay Partin, Terrylynn Skinner, Jennifer Cox, and Tim Robinson in the history office for their hard work. I am convinced that the entire history and political science department would collapse without them holding things together. Last but definitely not least, I would like to thank Dr. Eric Wake, our sponsor for his hard work, dedication, and leadership. None of our success would be possible if not for his guiding hand.
