COMMENTS FROM THE ADVISOR
Upsilon-Upsilon
has a rich history in the annals of Phi Alpha Theta. It was
chartered in 1974 as the 500th chapter. Beginning with
the 1977-1978 academic year, the chapter has either won outright
or been named co-winner of the Best Chapter Award in Division I (up
to 3000 students) twenty-one of the last twenty-two years. This year we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Chapter. In honor of the occasion, I created a little booklet entitled
As advisor to Upsilon-Upsilon, I would like to express my personal thanks to those of you who worked so hard. Since our numbers were rather small this year, some of you had to carry an extra burden. You are to be congratulated for stepping out and going the extra mile. To our seniors, we will miss you, but we know that it is time for you to move into the next part of your life. Please remember that you helped to build the tradition of the Chapter and that you will always be a part of it. Have a good life!

COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR
I have been most honored to serve as editor of this year's The Upsilonian and hope our readers will derive some degree of satisfaction from the authors' varied treatments of the French Revolution -- whether they portray that great cataclysm as the Enlightenment's bloody finale or as a stomach-felt cry for bread.
Whatever achievements or historical opinions are contained herein, their march toward the press would have been considerably hobbled without the assistance of the Board of Advisors. Most importantly, these papers might well have died en route to the printers had Mrs. Fay Partin not taken on the Herculean labors of manuscript preparation.
Jeremiah R. Taylor COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT
It has been another interesting year for the Upsilon-Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. We have seen many fundraisers come and go, only to find out that the best way to raise money is at a professor's expense. We thank Dr. Pilant once again for donating his beard to the chapter in the "shave the beard" fundraiser. As usual our book sales have brought in money that was much needed. Thanks to all those that helped with either the fall or spring sales. A special thanks goes to Charles Hayes who has the uncanny ability to sell books he knows nothing about to people who do not need them. This year has been a special one for the chapter. We celebrated winning yet another Best Chapter Award. This chapter has existed for twenty-five years and in that time we have managed to win this award twenty-one times. This says a great deal about the dedication and hard work of its members. I challenge those who would follow to continue this tradition. All it takes is a little pride in what is being done. We have also been blessed to hold the Kentucky Regional Conference here at Cumberland this year. In honor of our twenty-five year existence, we had many former presidents come and help with it. This was a great thing to see because it shows that Upsilon-Upsilon members still take pride in this chapter even after they have graduated from their undergraduate studies. In closing, I
would like to give a special thanks to Doug Elliot who served as my vice-president this year. He has been a source of tremendous encouragement and support. Additionally, I would like to thank Dr. Wake for his continued suport of the chapter. Very few of us realize the amount of work he does to keep the Upsilon-Upsilon chapter running. Finally I want to thank Fay Partin for all her dedicated work. I do not know what I would have done if she were not there to keep me up to speed and make sure that mailings went out.
