1990 UC Public Health Graduate
Currently, Mark is the Executive Director of the Laurel County Health Department located in London, KY. He is a 1990 graduate of Cumberland College, having a B.S. in Public Health. Upon graduation, Mark began his career in public health as a Health Environmentalist with the Laurel County Health Department. While serving the community of Laurel County, Mark obtained his Registered Sanitarian License, as well as becoming the agency’s Food Service Specialist. He worked as a Health and Senior Health Environmentalist for 12 years before becoming Executive Director in 2002. Mark serves on two executive boards, the Kentucky Public Health Association (KPHA) and the Kentucky Health Department Association (KHDA). In addition, he is the Environmental Health Chair for KHDA. Mark is a member of both the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NAACHO). Mark equates success with the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of those in your community. A career in public health has given him the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of those in his community.
Over the years, Mark has visited our campus and served as a guest speaker for our majors. His enthusiasm and passion for public health has proven to be a real inspiration to our students. He has been a great supporter of our students and department. He graciously opens his agency to students who desire to complete their public health internship at the Laurel County Health Department and provides them with a valuable learning experience.
