Dr. Tyrone Bynoe
Assistant Professor of Education

 

Dr. Bynoe’s educational training features a B.A. in American History (1978), M.A. in European History (1985)*, M.S. Ed. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies (1990), and a 2 nd M.A. in American History (1992). He earned these four degrees at the University of Albany (N.Y.). Dr. Bynoe, then, earned an Ed.D. in Educational Administration at Teachers College-Columbia University in February, 2004. Additionally, Dr. Bynoe completed graduate courses in Special Education when P.L. 94-142 first allocated federal funds to public schools for classified students during the 1978-1979 school year.

Dr. Bynoe has a rich background in supervisory and pedagogical practice. He has been a public school-administrator in various assignments involving grades K to 12. These assignments included Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Instructional Services, and Director of Special Education. He has also been a classroom teacher of History and the Social Studies. Dr. Bynoe’s first professional assignment occurred in a secondary Christian-Day School as a Social Studies Teacher. Along with a full-load of social studies classes, Dr. Bynoe taught classes in Bible and Physical Education. Subsequent to this assignment, Dr. Bynoe taught every course in the Social Studies grades 7 through 12 at all ability levels in the hometown of Uncle Sam (the symbol of our nation’s fiscal policy).

Dr. Bynoe has been affiliated with numerous professional associations including, but not limited to, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of Elementary School Principals, International Confederation of Principals, National Council for the Social Studies, American Education Finance Association, and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. During the 2005-2006 school year, Dr. Bynoe will likely resume affiliation with the NASSP, ICP, and maintain membership in or an affiliation with AEFA, ASCD, American Education Research Association, and the Kentucky Supervisory Association.

Dr. Bynoe’s academic interests are in school-finance, effective-schools, teacher quality, organizational behavior, public school supervision, educational history, and computer applications. Outside of education disciplines, Dr. Bynoe has a unique command of diplomatic and global history from 1936 to the present. Dr. Bynoe arrived to University of the Cumberlands as a seasoned educator with a purposeful research agenda. 

* The first MA is officially in Social Studies since University @ Albany’s regulations disallows the conferral of two MAs in History. Nevertheless, the course work of this degree is in European History.
