  • Requirements for a Spanish Minor

     

    Receiving Credit for FREN 131/132 or for SPAN 131/132  

    In addition to taking these courses as part of their normal course work, students may receive credit for these classes by

    • earning a score of 3 or higher on the appropriate AP examination.
    • taking and passing the appropriate CLEP examination.
    • taking and passing the French or Spanish Bypass examination.

    Eligibility for the French or Spanish Bypass Examination

    To be eligible to take the French or Spanish Bypass examination, entering students 1) must have taken two years of the language in high school, earning at least a grade of “B” in both years, or 2) be native speakers of the language. Eligible entering students will receive a letter from the Office of Academic Affairs during the summer prior to enrollment, inviting them to sit for the examination, normally given during Welcome Week prior to the fall semester. Students who do not sit for the examination at this time, forfeit their opportunity for bypass credit.

    Depending upon their performance on the examination, students may be awarded credit for FREN 131 and FREN 132, or for SPAN 131, and 132.

    Requirements of the French Minor and Teaching Minor

    B.A. French Minor (21 hours)

    Each of the following is required:

    FREN 131
    FREN 132
    FREN 231
    FREN 232, 331, or 332
    FREN 235, 332, or 333
    FREN 332, 334, or 335
    an additional course above FREN 231

    B. A. French Teaching Minor (27 hours)

    Each of the following is required:  

    FREN 131
    FREN 132
    FREN 231
    FREN 232, 331, or 332
    FREN 235, 332, or 333
    FREN 332, 334, or 335
    FREN 431
    FREN 432
    an additional course above FREN 231

    In addition 33 hours in professional education courses as required for certification eligibility.

     

    Study Abroad . French minors are encouraged to enhance their fluency by immersing themselves in the language and culture through study abroad. Appropriate transfer credit may be awarded for language courses and cultural study done overseas under the auspices of an accredited and approved academic institution.

     

    Requirements of the Spanish Minor and Teaching Minor

    B.A. Spanish Minor (21 hours)

    Each of the following is required:

    SPAN 132
    SPAN 231
    SPAN 232
    SPAN 235
    SPAN 331
    SPAN 333, 334, 433, or 490

     

     

     

    B. A. Spanish Teaching Minor (27 hours)

    Each of the following is required:

    SPAN 132
    SPAN 231
    SPAN 232
    SPAN 235
    SPAN 331
    SPAN 333, 334, 433, or 490
    SPAN 431
    SPAN 432
