SIGMA TAU DELTA

Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honors Society, is an organization devoted to encouraging love of literature and promoting high academic achievement in literary studies. English majors are invited to join the University of the Cumberlands’ Delta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta after completing 15 hours of English classes beyond the English Composition sequence in which they have maintained a least a B+ average. Sigma Tau Delta offers various opportunities for members to develop and excel as readers, writers, and critics; these include sponsoring of the English Department’s Critical Writing Award and co-sponsoring the English literary publication, Pensworth. Still, the main focus of the organization is to maintain a spirit of inclusiveness and community through a variety of social functions that are available to all English majors and minors. Sigma Tau Delta members try to provide a welcoming environment where students can interact with faculty and peers to share a common appreciation for language and literature.
