University Mentor Coordinator
My name is Kimberly Brown. I am a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K -8), Master of Arts in Education and a Rank I Certification in Educational Administration/Leadership and Supervision.
I have served as a classroom teacher and curriculum coach at the Elementary level.
At the Middle School level, I was Department Chair, Writing Portfolio Cluster Leader and teacher of Language Arts and Mathematics and was selected as Educator of the Year in 1991. I have building level experience with: The Writing Process, Reading in the Content Areas and School Improvement.
After leaving the classroom I moved into the area of District/School Administration as Director of Middle and Secondary School Education. Areas of service include: Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Coordinator of Title II and VI, District Comprehensive School Improvement Planning Coordinator and various other roles at the district level. My main interest(s) at the district level are Comprehensive School Improvement Planning, Drop-Out Prevention, Effective and Sustained District/School Professional Development Initiatives, and Professional Learning Communities.
I am a graduate of the Kentucky Leadership Academy, and the Academy for Women in School Administration. I have presented hundreds of hours of professional development and leadership seminars at the district and state level as well as presentations at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Conference, Atlanta, Georgia and several Effective Schools Conferences, in various states.
Professional Memberships include: Kentucky Association of School Administrators, Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Phi Delta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, the Kentucky Association of Gifted Educators and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

My research interests include: Professional Learning Communities, District/School Culture and Accountability, Effective School Leadership, and Instructional Strategies That Positively Impact Student Achievement.
I joined the faculty at University of the Cumberlands as an Assistant Professor in September 2009. I reside in London with my husband Rick. I have one son, Jordan, who is currently a graduate student at UC and serves as an Assistant Football Coach.
