University of the Cumberlands
Department of Communication & Theatre Arts

The Patriot, the official student newspaper of University of the Cumberlands, seeks to provide hands-on journalism experience for the University’s students. Students are involved in writing, editing, photography, and layout design. The campus newspaper is produced by a student staff and is advised by four members of the University of the Cumberlands staff.

You do not have to be a Communication Arts major or a Journalism minor to be involved with the campus newspaper.  All UC students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to take part in publication of The Patriot. The Patriot gives students of all majors and interests experience with print communication through a wide range of writing, from news and features to entertainment, religion and sports. Contributors can also write commentary and humorous or creative pieces. The paper reaches approximately 2,000 people, both on campus and across the world.

The Patriot offers work study positions and journalism scholarships. The office of The Patriot is located on campus in the lower Boswell Campus Center. If you would like more information, please contact The Patriot at 539-4172 or send an email to thepatriot@ucumberlands.edu.  You can also contact one of The Patriot’s advisers, Jeremiah Massengale at 539-4527 or via email at jmasseng@ucumberlands.edu .
