Dr. Jeff C. Smoak, Jr.
Professor & Department Chair of Music
Dr. Jeff Smoak joined the University of the Cumberlands' faculty in 1994 and was appointed Department Chair in 1997. He graduated from Charleston Southern University with a BA in Music Education. His graduate work includes two degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: a Master of Church Music degree and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Pedagogy degree.
Dr. Smoak directs both the Chamber Choir/Show Choir and the Cumberland Singers. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Additionally, he has served for many years as a faculty advisor for INSIGHTS, UC’s freshman orientation program. Dr. Smoak received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2004 for his work at the university, and he is currently listed in the national publication “Who's Who in American Education.”
In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Smoak has served as adjudicator for choral and solo vocal competitions throughout the US. Dr. Smoak also serves as Worship Leader for Main Street Baptist Church in Williamsburg.
