Dr. Julie Tan
Professor & Department Chair of Biology

J. Tan

Dr. Julie Tan first came to University of the Cumberlands from Selangor, Malaysia as a student, completing a B.S. in Chemistry in 1987. Upon her graduation from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Dr. Tan returned to Cumberlands as a member of the faculty. In 1998, she was named Honored Professor by Cumberland’s Student Government Association.

Dr. Tan, a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Organic Chemistry and Chemical Education, serves as faculty director of the department’s Alchemist Club. Since 1991, she has directed several senior research projects, has collaborated with numerous professional colleagues on studies published in The Journal of Organic Chemistry and The Tetrahedron Letters, and has presented research at regional and national meetings of the American Chemical Society.
